與臺灣關系法是美國為干預臺灣問題而制定的一部美國國內法。

1979年，美國在與臺灣當局"斷交"而與中華人民共和國政府建交后，企圖繼續(xù)插手臺灣問題，干預中國的統(tǒng)一進程，為此美國國會于1979年4月10日制定了"與臺灣關系法"，以此取代遭廢除的"中美共同防御條約"（美國與臺灣當局1954年簽訂）。美國政府企圖以此為據(jù)"協(xié)防"臺灣，不斷向其出售武器，無理要求中國不得以武力統(tǒng)一臺灣，粗暴干涉中國內政。根據(jù)"該法"，美國得以在臺灣設立具備使領館功能的"美國在臺協(xié)會"。

"與臺灣關系法"是美國單方面制定的，是與中美三個聯(lián)合公報精神背道而馳的，中國政府對此明確、堅決地反對。

The Taiwan Relations Act

The Taiwan Relations Act is a domestic law of the United States designed to enable U.S. interference in the Taiwan question.

After breaking off relations with the Taiwanese authorities and establishing diplomatic ties with the government of the People's Republic of China in 1979, the United States continued to meddle in the Taiwan question and interfere with China's unification process. To this end, the U.S. Congress enacted the Taiwan Relations Act on April 10, 1979 to replace the defunct Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty, signed in 1954 between the United States and the Taiwanese authorities. This act authorized the U.S. government to continue its arms sales to Taiwan, a move that amounts to gross interference in China's internal affairs. It also authorized the establishment of an"American Institute in Taiwan" with diplomatic and consular functions.

The Chinese government is unequivocally and resolutely opposed to the Taiwan Relations Act, which is unilateral in nature, and runs counter to the spirit of the three Sino-US joint communiqués.
